Someone caught my attention with an article in Thursday’s Norman Transcript that quoted Cal Hobson saying Democrats could pick up the State Senate District 34 seat because we only lost last time by 2 percentage points and the incumbent, Randy Brogdan was saddled with his support of TABOR.
I like Cal. I endorsed his candidacy for Lt. Governor in this diary. I don’t understand where Cal’s optimism about this race comes from.
Brogdan is opposed by Democrat James Ward. Jim is a fine man…impeccable resume spanning 50 years in private business and public service. I don’t think he’s getting sound advice about this race, though, because when I asked him, about 10 days ago, “How many votes do you need to secure a victory?” he replied, “Half of the registered Democrats.” Registered Democrats in State Senate District 34 represent 39% of the total registered voters.
Compounding the issue further, Brogden has raised $47,000 to Ward’s $550, according to the last financial filings. Hobson gave Jim almost half of his total campaign funds, according to these reports.
So Cal, ole’ buddy; help me out here. How are we going to push James Ward over the top? Can he ride on Brad’s coattails?
We need some serious help here!
