Evolution in Oklahoma

As we approach Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday, Oklahoma lawmakers want to turn the clock back to the 19th century.
Oklahoma is home base for the religious warriors against modernity. As the twenty-first century breaks open before us, those who fear the secular and the novel retreat to the darker days of the pre-scientific era.
We should be celebrating the bicentennial of a great figure in human history-the man who showed us where we came from, and unlocked the key to all life on Earth. Charles Darwin’s idea was simple but revolutionary. Instead of a seeing life as static, he introduced the idea that life can change over time. Instead of attributing the wonders of the world to the supernatural, he described life in terms of natural processes.
