The corporate media here, especially The Oklahoman, likes to argue that U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn is an extremely popular politician in Oklahoma. That seems true enough. A major, viable Democratic candidate has yet to emerge to run against Coburn this election year.
But one has to wonder how popular Coburn would actually be here if local media outlets actually reported consistently on the senator’s inconsistencies and hypocrisies as MSNBC television host Rachel Maddow does in the above segment.
Maddow’s segment cannot be dismissed with the argument that this is merely a political attack from the left. She carefully and thoroughly dissects Coburn’s stances and shows the glaring contradictions. Maddow shows us that Coburn tries to play the part of principled leader when, in fact, his political stunts are often inconsistent with his previous votes. She also shows the Coburn has been less than straightforward in the U.S. Sen. John Ensign controversy.
When will the media here hold Coburn accountable?
