They say that stress levels go through the roof during the holiday, oops I meant Christmas season–what with the crazy uncles, aunts, cousins, husbands, wives, exes and all. From experience I can tell you that nothing ramps up the old holiday spirit like spending time with your dysfunctional family! Just so you’ll know, Senator James Inhofe is not immune to all of this.
According to newson6.com, the once former mayor, now Senator Inhofe, announced that he’ll boycott the Tulsa Holiday Parade of Lights for a second year in a row because the city changed the name of this longstanding parade from Christmas Parade of Lights to Holiday Parade of Lights. Inhofe calls it a “shameful attempt to take Christ, the true reason for our celebration, out of the parade’s title.” He also said “until the parade is again named the Christmas Parade of Lights, I will not participate.”
Jeepers! Just when an old blue dog like me thought Bill O’Reilly had smote the enemy and won the culture wars for sure, here comes the city of Tulsa sporting a bit of ethnic and cultural sensitivity! Is nothing sacred anymore? Mark my words, if this holiday thing keeps up, they’ll be folks in Tulsa celebrating Hanukkah, this December 1st through the 9th, and Kwanzaa on Sunday, December 26th–not to mention elves and Santas in all the shopping malls! And what will become of all of us if atheists and non-Christians actually begin to think of these days as their holidays too? Best nip it in the bud before this Holiday stuff spreads to parts beyond.
I know the folks in Tulsa will miss their former mayor in this year’s parade. Perhaps his absence will sadden them and bring them to repentance of their careless ways so that the word Christmas might be restored to its proper place. If so, maybe this madness can fade to an unpleasant memory and order be restored for the good of us all.
