Racial profiling and the arrest of Henry Gates, Jr

Back in the day when I was a Public Defender, I found myself witnessing a traffic stop outside the grocery store I was about to enter. The driver of the car was pulled over, and after he had shown license and registration he was told, “You fit the description. We need to search your car.”

The religious leaders steal the election

The past weekend was filled with riots throughout Tehran as supporters of reformist Mir Hossein Mousavi took to the streets decrying the results of the June 12 election that declared Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the victor. The election has angered many Iranians who believed they could bring “change” after four years of Ahmadinejad. Working from the same basic facts, they articulated two different and mutually exclusive worldviews. It is possible for both of them to be wrong, but they can’t both be right. The result has been a muddled debate, with neither side able to control the narrative. It is time to set a few things straight.
