[First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate 2008 Guru: Following the Races.]
Republican Senator from Louisiana David Vitter has been outed as having frequented prostitutes and brothels in Washington DC and New Orleans, cheating on his wife to do so. As illegal and immoral as that is, it is also hypocritical as he ran on a platform of “family values” and called for Bill Clinton’s resignation when Clinton’s infidelity came out (albeit Clinton’s infidelity wasn’t with a prostitute like Vitter’s was).
So, clearly, Vitter is a hypocrite on family values. So all those “real” family values Republicans should be calling for him to resign, no?
Well, let’s see what “family values” Republican Senator Tom Coburn said about his colleague David Vitter repeatedly cheating on his wife with prostitutes:
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) was more to the point. “Have you ever done anything wrong?” he asked The Hill. “So have I.”
Is Coburn admitting that he, too, has cheated on his wife with prostitutes? Maybe not, but he certainly is not so much as batting an eyelash over his fellow “family values” Republican Senator cheating on his wife with hookers.
Seems awfully hypocritical. Seems like someone ought to say to Coburn that if he really cares about “family values,” he ought to suggest that maybe David Vitter step down from the Senate in light of his repeated adultery with prostitutes.
